New York, March 5 (NationPress) President Donald Trump expressed gratitude towards Pakistan for the capture of the "monster" accountable for the suicide bombing that targeted US troops amid the Afghanistan withdrawal.

During his address to Congress on Tuesday, he declared, "We have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity, and he is right now on his way here to face the swift sword of American justice."

Trump acknowledged the Pakistani government for their role in arresting "this monster."

Media reports have identified the captured individual as Mohammad Sharifullah.

The suicide bombing he reportedly orchestrated in 2021 resulted in the deaths of 13 US military personnel and approximately 170 Afghans at Kabul airport.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated on X, "I can report that tonight the FBI, DOJ (Department of Justice), and CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) have extradited one of the terrorists responsible for the murder of the 13 American soldiers at Abbey Gate during the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal."

"One step closer to justice for these American heroes and their families," he added.

Trump praised Patel for redirecting the FBI from being weaponized against him and his political rivals.

Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi, who also received accolades from Trump, were met with sustained applause from Congress members.

Trump criticized former President Joe Biden for the disorderly withdrawal from Afghanistan, asserting it prompted Russia's President Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine.

"When Putin saw what happened, I guess he said, 'Well, maybe this is my chance.' That's how bad it was," he remarked.

According to Axios, CIA officials had been tracking Sharifullah’s location and provided this intel to Pakistan.

Islamabad dispatched an "elite unit" to apprehend him on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Ten days prior, Pakistan notified the US about his capture, with Patel and CIA Director John Ratcliff discussing the matter with Pakistani intelligence.

US officials interpret Sharifullah's arrest as a sign that Pakistan is willing to collaborate with the Trump administration.

Biden had previously distanced himself from Pakistan, which was perceived as hesitant to assist in counter-terrorism efforts.
