Washington, Feb 10 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump has stated that Palestinians will not be granted a right to return to Gaza, which he envisions the United States will “own” as it undergoes redevelopment and reconstruction.
The American leader is reinforcing his strategy to “take over” Gaza and create “beautiful communities” for the 1.9 million residents of Gaza, who, according to his proposal, will need to reside elsewhere in the region, specifically in neighboring countries for the time being.
“No, they wouldn’t,” Trump responded to an inquiry about whether Palestinians will have the right to return. “Because they’re going to have much better housing … I’m talking about constructing a permanent place for them, because if they have to return now, it will take years before you could ever – it’s not livable. It will take years before that could happen.”
Trump's initiative to resettle Gaza residents, which he unveiled during a recent news conference with Japan's Prime Minister, has not been well-received in the region, with the exception of Israel, which has expressed support. Both Egypt and Jordan have rejected it, and Cairo has announced plans to convene a Summit of the Arab League following high-level discussions in recent days to address “new and dangerous developments for the Palestinian cause”.
Trump was dismissive of the doubts expressed from the region. “I believe I could negotiate a deal with Jordan, and I think I could make a deal with Egypt. You know, we provide them billions and billions of dollars annually,” he stated in the interview.
The US President spoke with Fox News for a pre-recorded interview that is set to air during the Sunday Super Bowl championship match of the American Football League, as part of the Super Bowl tradition. Trump discussed multiple topics, including his suggestion to annex Canada as the 51st state, which he claims is serious, and defended billionaire Elon Musk’s efforts to reduce federal expenditures.
Regarding his plans for Gaza, the President elaborated, “We’ll create beautiful communities for the 1.9 million individuals. We’ll construct safe communities. They could consist of five, six, or even two. But we’ll establish secure communities a bit distant from where they are, away from all this peril. In the meantime, I would own this. Consider it a real estate venture for the future. It would be a stunning piece of land.”
