Tunis, Feb 1 (NationPress) Tunisian President Kais Saied held a meeting with David Lammy, the visiting Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, to discuss the state of bilateral relations, as per a statement from the Tunisian presidency.

During their meeting on Friday, Saied highlighted the strength and stability of the existing relationship, while acknowledging areas for further enhancement, particularly in the realms of economy, investment, trade, security, energy, and education.

The president also explored opportunities for enhanced cooperation, both on a bilateral and multilateral level, to tackle regional and global issues, as reported by Xinhua.

Touching on global issues, Saied remarked that the international response to the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people has been more effective, prompt, and unified than that of traditional global institutions.

He further highlighted challenges such as terrorism and inhumane migration, which are driven by cross-border criminal networks.

Saied urged for increased international cooperation to dismantle these networks and ensure that individuals from source countries have the means to live with dignity, security, and stability to facilitate their return home.

In response, Lammy extended an invitation for Saied to visit Britain soon and deliver a lecture at Oxford University in London regarding new humanitarian political thought on both national and global scales.

Following his discussions with Saied, Lammy was received by Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Ali Nafti at the ministry's headquarters.

As per a statement from the Tunisian Foreign Ministry, the two officials exchanged perspectives on the situation in the Sahel region, its implications for migration, and the necessity for a comprehensive strategy to address the root causes of migration, combat smuggling networks, and promote regular migration.

They also reviewed various international and regional matters of mutual concern, centering on efforts to bolster security, stability, and sustainable development in the region.
