Ukrainian Forces Publish Images of Allegedly Fallen North Korean Soldiers in Kursk: Reports

Seoul, Dec 16 (NationPress) The Ukrainian military has unveiled images and videos depicting what seems to be numerous North Korean soldiers who lost their lives alongside Russian forces in the wester Kursk border region of Russia, according to a Ukrainian media source. Ukrainska Pravda reported on Sunday, relying on information from a drone unit, that the soldiers whose remains were shown covered in snow were killed during assaults in the Russian region adjacent to Ukraine on Saturday, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

The Madiar channel stressed that this operation was a joint effort involving FPV (first-person view) drone pilots from the 414th Unmanned Strike Aviation Systems Regiment, the Mahura Brigade, the 95th Air Assault Brigade, the 36th Separate Marine Brigade, the 1st Tank Brigade, and the 17th Tank Brigade,” according to the outlet.

The specifics of the post shared on the drone unit's Telegram channel have not been promptly verified.

On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy remarked that Russia could broaden its utilization of North Korean soldiers to other sections of the front line.

“We already have preliminary information indicating that the Russians have started employing North Korean soldiers in their assaults. A considerable number of them,” Zelenskyy stated in an address.

“The Russians are integrating them into combined units and deploying them in operations within the Kursk region. Currently, it’s confined to that area. However, we possess information suggesting that their deployment could extend to other segments of the front line,” he added.

Both South Korea and the US have accused North Korea of dispatching thousands of troops to Russia, with some reportedly participating in combat in the wester Kursk border region.

Last month, reports indicated that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un held talks with Russia's visiting Defence Minister, expressing his backing for Russia's military efforts against Ukraine.

According to Pyongyang's state media, Kim had a “friendly and trustworthy” meeting with Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov on November 29, amid allegations of North Korea sending thousands of its troops to Russia to bolster Moscow's military efforts against Ukraine.

During the meeting, Kim Jong-un denounced the US and the West for allowing Ukraine to utilize supplied long-range missiles for attacks against Russia, labeling the action a “direct” military intervention, as reported by Yonhap.

Kim asserted that “the DPRK government, army and people will steadfastly support the policy of the Russian Federation in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity from imperialist attempts at hegemony,” using the acronym of North Korea's official name.

North Korea and Russia have been enhancing military cooperation under a significant Defence treaty signed in June, which stipulates providing military assistance “without delay” if either party is attacked.
