New Delhi, July 30 (NationPress) In a noteworthy update, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has officially identified The Resistance Front (TRF), a faction associated with the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), for its involvement in the recent Pahalgam terror attack, as highlighted in its latest report on global terrorism.
The UNSC monitoring committee released its report on July 24, linking Lashkar’s proxy to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which tragically resulted in the death of 26 innocent tourists. This development is perceived as a diplomatic win for India, especially following the United States' recent designation of TRF as a foreign terrorist organization, thus reinforcing India's global counter-terrorism efforts.
The UNSC report notes, "On April 22, five terrorists targeted a tourist area in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility on the same day and even released a photograph of the attack site."
“This claim was reiterated the next day. However, on April 26, TRF retracted its claim, and there was no further communication from them, nor did any other group step forward to take responsibility. Regional dynamics remain tense, increasing the likelihood of terrorist factions exploiting these conditions,” it added.
The BJP IT cell chief, Amit Malviya, highlighted the report from the UNSC monitoring committee, criticizing the Congress party's inconsistent stance on Pakistan's harboring of terrorists.
He challenged Congress leader P Chidambaram regarding his recent comments questioning the Pakistani origin of the Pahalgam attackers.
In a post on X, Malviya stated, "The UN Security Council Monitoring Committee has definitively identified The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, as the orchestrator of the recent Pahalgam attack in Kashmir. Yet, Congress leader P. Chidambaram had the audacity to question, 'Where is the proof they came from Pakistan?' How much more evidence do these apologists require? Or is their loyalty permanently outsourced?"
In a recent interview, Chidambaram remarked, "Have they identified the terrorists? Where did they originate? For all we know, they could be homegrown extremists. Why assume they came from Pakistan? There's no evidence for that," he stated.
Earlier, on July 18, the US had officially banned TRF, classifying it as a global terrorist organization. During the announcement, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that this action “demonstrates the Trump Administration’s commitment to ensuring national security, countering terrorism, and upholding President Trump’s call for justice in relation to the Pahalgam attack.”
Rubio mentioned that TRF would be added to the lists of designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT).
“TRF, an entity associated with Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam attack, which resulted in 26 civilian casualties,” he stated.
“This was the deadliest assault on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks carried out by LeT,” he added.
