New Delhi, July 30 (NationPress) In a crucial turn of events, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has officially identified The Resistance Front (TRF), a splinter group of the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), for its involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack, as reported in its recent global terrorism monitoring document.
The UNSC monitoring committee’s report, released on July 24, has directly linked this Lashkar proxy to the horrific incident on April 22 in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 innocent tourists. This development is considered another diplomatic achievement for India, especially since the United States also designated TRF as a foreign terrorist organization just days prior, thus affirming India’s global counter-terrorism efforts.
The UNSC report elaborates, "On April 22, five terrorists targeted a popular tourist destination in Pahalgam, situated in Jammu and Kashmir. Tragically, 26 civilians lost their lives. That same day, The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility for the attack and even shared a photograph from the scene."
“This claim was reiterated the next day. However, on April 26, TRF retracted their statement. There was no further communication from the group, nor did any other entity step forward to take responsibility. The regional atmosphere remains delicate, and there is a concern that terrorist organizations may take advantage of these ongoing tensions,” it further stated.
Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP IT cell, highlighted the findings of the UNSC monitoring committee and criticized the Congress party for its inconsistent stance on Pakistan's role in harboring terrorism.
He challenged Congress leader P Chidambaram over his recent remarks questioning the Pakistani origin of the Pahalgam attackers. In a post on X, Malviya expressed, "The UN Security Council Monitoring Committee has unmistakably recognized The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, as the organizer of the Pahalgam attack. Yet, Congress leader P. Chidambaram had the audacity to inquire, ‘Where is the proof they came from Pakistan?’ How much more evidence do these apologists require? Or is their allegiance permanently outsourced?"
In a recent interview with a news outlet, Chidambaram stated, "Have they identified the terrorists? Where did they originate? For all we know, they could be domestic terrorists. Why assume they came from Pakistan? There’s no proof of that," he commented.
Earlier, on July 18, the US imposed sanctions on TRF, classifying it as a global terror organization. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed this designation, emphasizing the Trump Administration's dedication to safeguarding national security, countering terrorism, and enforcing President Trump’s call for justice regarding the Pahalgam attack.
Rubio announced that TRF was being included in the lists of designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT).
“TRF, a front and proxy of Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack on April 22, 2025, resulting in the deaths of 26 civilians,” his statement read.
“This marked the deadliest assault on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks perpetrated by LeT,” he added.
