Washington, Jan 26 (NationPress) In a significant gesture, five U.S. states — Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Nebraska, and South Dakota — have officially recognized January 26, 2026, as the “Republic Day of India,” commemorating the 77th anniversary of India's Constitution adoption and honoring the contributions of the Indian and Indian American communities within their borders.

In distinct proclamations, the governors of these states emphasized India's role as the world’s largest democracy and celebrated shared principles of democracy, innovation, and economic development, alongside the strengthening partnerships between these two prominent democracies.

Alaska's Governor, Mike Dunleavy, noted that January 26, 2026, represents the 77th Republic Day of India, “celebrating the Constitution of India and the world's largest democracy.”

The Alaska proclamation acknowledged the significance of enhancing bilateral relations with India and recognized the Indian community's substantial impact on Alaska's cultural diversity, educational excellence, and economic growth.

It also mentioned the escalating collaborations between Alaska and India in sectors like trade, technology, agriculture, and cultural exchange, fostering mutual prosperity and understanding.

Oregon Governor, Tina Kotek, echoed similar sentiments in her proclamation, highlighting January 26, 2026, as the 77th Republic Day of India and the necessity of bolstering bilateral ties with India.

The proclamation from Oregon stated that the Indian community significantly enhances the state’s cultural richness, academic standards, and economic strength, noting ongoing robust partnerships in trade, technology, agriculture, and cultural cooperation.

In Washington State, Governor Bob Ferguson issued a proclamation that celebrated the importance of Washington’s relationship with India, acknowledging the Indian American community's contributions to science, technology, education, business, arts, and civic engagement.

This proclamation revealed that Washington and India are continuously expanding their meaningful partnerships in areas such as trade, technology, clean energy, agriculture, and cultural relations, thus strengthening person-to-person connections.

The Washington proclamation recognized this day as a tribute to “the adoption of the Constitution of India and the enduring values of liberty, justice, and democratic governance upheld by the world’s largest democracy.”

Governor Ferguson declared January 26, 2026, as “Republic Day of India” in Washington and encouraged residents to celebrate the accomplishments of the Indian and Indian American communities, along with the lasting friendship between Washington and India.

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen proclaimed January 26, 2026, as “Republic Day of India.” The Nebraska proclamation highlighted the Indian community's vital contributions to Nebraska’s cultural diversity, educational achievements, and economic health, alongside growing partnerships in trade, technology, agriculture, and cultural exchanges.

In South Dakota, Governor Larry Rhoden issued an executive proclamation acknowledging January 26, 2026, as India’s Republic Day.
