Washington, Jan 26 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump conveyed his best wishes to the citizens of India on the occasion of their 77th Republic Day, highlighting that both nations maintain a historic bond as the world's oldest and largest democracies.

The US Embassy in India shared Trump's heartfelt message on the social media platform X.

In his statement, Trump remarked, "On behalf of the people of the United States, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the government and people of India as you celebrate your 77th Republic Day. The United States and India share a historic bond as the world’s oldest and largest democracies."

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also sent greetings to the Indian populace on Republic Day, expressing his eagerness to collaborate on mutual interests in the forthcoming year.

Rubio stated, "On behalf of the people of the United States, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the people of India on your Republic Day. The United States and India share a historic bond. Our close cooperation in defense, energy, critical minerals, and emerging technologies, along with our multifaceted engagement through the Quad, ensures that the US-India relationship yields tangible results for both countries and the Indo-Pacific region. I look forward to advancing our shared objectives in the year ahead."

India's Republic Day is celebrated annually on January 26, marking the adoption of its Constitution in 1950 and its emergence as a sovereign democratic republic. The day features ceremonial events in New Delhi, including a national parade, and celebrations nationwide, emphasizing constitutional values and democratic traditions.

Last December, Prime Minister Modi and US President Trump engaged in a telephonic conversation, discussing bilateral relations and regional as well as international developments.

During the call, PM Modi and President Trump reaffirmed the importance of maintaining momentum in their shared efforts to enhance bilateral trade.

"Had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments. India and the US will continue to collaborate for global peace, stability, and prosperity," PM Modi posted on X following the phone call.

The two leaders evaluated the advancements in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and expressed satisfaction with the continuous strengthening of bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

They exchanged views on enhancing collaboration in critical technologies, energy, defense, and security, as well as other priority areas essential for the implementation of the India–US COMPACT (Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce, and Technology) for the 21st century.

Furthermore, they discussed various regional and global issues, agreeing to work collaboratively to tackle shared challenges and promote common interests.
