Washington, June 3 (NationPress) US Second Lady Usha Vance highlighted a pivotal moment in the bilateral relations with India during her recent visit there with her husband, Vice-President J.D. Vance, and their three children, describing it as a “mindblowing” experience.

In a rare public discussion at an event organized by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum on Monday, Usha Vance expressed the strong connection her children established with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whom they viewed as a grandfather figure.

“This is a time of great opportunity. I believe if my husband were here, he would echo the same sentiment,” she remarked when asked about her perspective on the US-India relationship.

“The dynamics between the US and India have fluctuated over time. At times, the objectives of each country diverge. However, I truly believe that in the coming years, especially given the established Indian-American community and the many individuals in India who are connected with our nation and are achieving remarkable things, this relationship can flourish.”

She continued, “During our recent visit, I was amazed by the number of individuals who approached me to express their love for our country, share their family visits, and their desire for a stronger relationship. These personal connections are indeed significant.”

The Vance family traveled to India in April, marking the first vice-presidential visit in 13 years, following Vice-President Joe Biden's trip in 2013.

The subsequent two Vice-Presidents, Mike Pence and Kamala Harris, who has Indian heritage, did not make the journey.

“For us, it was a trip of a lifetime. My children had never been to India. They had grown up hearing stories, enjoying food, and nurturing relationships with grandparents and friends, but they had never experienced it firsthand. It was truly mindblowing for them. For J.D. and me, it was equally special,” Usha Vance stated.

“We witnessed some of the most breathtaking sights in North India and are eager to return to explore the regions where my family has roots. The experience was filled with incredible moments—the delightful cuisine, the peacocks we encountered, and the awe-inspiring view of The Taj Mahal at dawn, accompanied by the serene blue skies. Meeting the Prime Minister was also exceptionally memorable,” she added.

Usha Vance and her family had met Prime Minister Modi previously during an AI summit in Paris in February.

“They were quite tired in Paris when they spotted an elderly Indian man with a white beard and immediately categorized him as a grandfather. They have taken a liking to him, especially after he gifted our five-year-old a birthday present that day. When we visited his residence, they eagerly approached him for hugs, and he was incredibly kind and generous to them,” she concluded.
