Vietnam Enhances Health Surveillance Following Four Fatalities Linked to Influenza

Hanoi, Dec 5 (NationPress) The Ministry of Health in Vietnam has instructed the south-central province of Binh Dinh to address cross-infection risks within healthcare facilities following the province's report of four fatalities attributed to influenza A/H1N1pdm, according to local media on Thursday.
All four deceased patients were aged 50 and above, presenting with severe pneumonia and multiple underlying health conditions at the time of their hospital admission, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Medical professionals noted that the fatalities related to influenza A/H1N1pdm seemed to be isolated incidents without any recognized epidemiological connections.
The provincial Department of Health indicated that by November 26, the province had recorded 842 cases of influenza.
Out of these, 26 individuals were diagnosed with severe pneumonia suspected to be of viral origin.
Laboratory analyses confirmed 10 cases of influenza A/H1N1pdm, one case of influenza B, nine negative results, and six cases still pending evaluation.
