Hanoi, April 6 (NationPress) The inaugural session of Vietnam's 16th National Assembly (NA) commenced on Monday morning in the heart of Hanoi.

During the opening ceremony, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, To Lam, emphasized that this session will prioritize the implementation of resolutions from the 14th National Congress of the CPV. It aims to establish a robust legal and institutional framework to drive the nation's progress.

Lam expressed optimism that the 16th NA, serving from 2026 to 2031, will rise to the significant responsibilities assigned by the party, the state, and the populace. This effort will enhance the realization of the vision for a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, civilized, and joyful Vietnam, consistently moving towards socialism.

The assembly's first meeting will also facilitate high-ranking appointments within the state apparatus and will evaluate and endorse eight draft laws alongside one resolution, as indicated in the agenda shared during a press briefing, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.

In this session, Tran Thanh Man, who led the 15th parliament, was re-elected as the head of the nation's top legislative body for its 16th term.

Man, a member of the Political Bureau of the 14th CPV Central Committee, secured a significant majority of votes to continue in this vital role.

Born in 1962, he initially took on the role of NA chair on May 20, 2024.

Previously, he served as both vice chairman and chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, and has held the position of permanent NA vice chairman since April 2021.

On April 26, 2024, the 13th Central Committee of the CPV accepted Vuong Dinh Hue's resignation from the Politburo and as the chairman of Vietnam's NA upon his personal request.

During an extraordinary session on May 2, 2024, the assembly passed a resolution to officially relieve Hue from his positions in the NA.
