New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm congratulations to To Lam following his election as the President of Vietnam, expressing his eagerness to collaborate in strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

He conveyed his belief that the longstanding friendship between India and Vietnam will flourish under Lam's leadership.

"My heartfelt congratulations to Mr. To Lam on being elected President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. I am optimistic that, under his guidance, the enduring friendship between our two nations will continue to thrive. I am keen to work closely together to enhance our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the advancement and welfare of our peoples and the region," PM Modi posted on X.

PM Modi's congratulatory remarks followed the confirmation of To Lam as the country's president for the term spanning 2026-2031 by Vietnam's National Assembly on Tuesday.

All 495 deputies present unanimously supported the election resolution for Lam.

Previously, Lam held the presidency from May 2024 to October 2024 and was elected as the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) in 2024, later re-elected for the 2026-2031 term during the inaugural meeting of the 14th CPVCC on January 23, 2026, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
