Washington, March 11 (NationPress) The White House has called on Congress to support significant election reform measures proposed by President Donald Trump, asserting that this legislation is crucial to enhancing voting integrity and guaranteeing that only American citizens are eligible to vote in U.S. elections.

During a White House press briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized the importance of the proposed SAVE America Act, labeling it as “one of the most vital pieces of legislation in our nation's history.”

“The SAVE America Act enjoys widespread approval among Americans because each of its provisions is based on common sense,” Leavitt stated.

She outlined five key requirements included in the legislation as articulated by the President. “The SAVE America Act includes five straightforward requirements as requested by the President of the United States,” she informed the media.

According to the White House, the first requirement mandates that voters present identification before casting their ballots. “Firstly, voters must show ID to cast a ballot in an American election,” Leavitt explained.

She noted that support for voter identification is strong across party lines. “Ninety percent of Americans, including over 80 percent of Democratic voters, are in favor of this measure.”

The second stipulation requires proof of citizenship at the time of voter registration. “The SAVE America Act will mandate that all voters provide proof of citizenship to register for voting in U.S. elections,” she clarified.

“Only American citizens possess the right to vote in American elections.”

Leavitt argued that this measure is necessary in light of what she characterized as a rise in illegal immigration in recent years.

“Following the influx of tens of millions of illegal immigrants into our country under Joe Biden and the Democrats, it's more crucial than ever to ensure that only American citizens are registering on our voter rolls, and Congress must pass this,” she asserted.

Another provision aims to eliminate universal mail-in ballots while retaining limited exceptions.

“The SAVE America Act abolishes the very insecure practice of universal mail-in ballots,” she noted.

However, she mentioned that certain groups of voters will still have the option to vote by mail.

“The SAVE America Act allows exceptions for Americans needing to vote by mail due to illness, disability, military service, or travel,” she added.

Leavitt referenced findings from a bipartisan election reform commission led by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State James Baker.

“The bipartisan 2005 report from the Commission on Federal Election Reform concluded that absentee ballots are the largest source of potential voter fraud,” she pointed out.

The proposed legislation also addresses issues beyond election processes.

“Fourthly, the SAVE America Act enforces a permanent ban on men competing in women's sports,” Leavitt stated. She further noted that the bill would prohibit gender-related medical procedures for minors.

“Lastly, the SAVE America Act prohibits transgender surgical procedures for minors.” Leavitt urged lawmakers from both parties to endorse the legislation.

“Enacting the SAVE America Act is the most significant action that both Republicans and, frankly, Democrats can take to bolster election integrity and safeguard our democracy,” she asserted.

The White House indicated that the President is eager for Congress to act swiftly on this initiative. “The President is urging Congress to complete this task and promptly send this historic legislation to his desk for signature,” she said.

In recent years, election laws have emerged as one of the most contentious political issues in the United States, particularly following the highly polarized 2020 presidential election. Republican leaders have consistently advocated for stricter voter identification and citizenship verification requirements, while many Democrats argue that such measures could complicate voting for certain demographics.

The discussion surrounding voting regulations has intensified across various U.S. states in recent years, with legislatures proposing a range of modifications affecting voter identification, mail-in ballots, and election administration as both parties gear up for future national elections.
