Dhaka, May 12 (NationPress) Renowned Bangladeshi thinker and activist Farhad Mazhar has criticized Mohammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the interim government, for permitting political forces to dictate terms in the aftermath of the nation's recent upheaval. Expressing serious concerns, he emphasized that Yunus has collaborated with political entities, thereby reinforcing corrupt factions following the departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024.
"He attended to their grievances regarding elections. But who authorized him? The people did not. He ought to have been engaging directly with the populace. Instead, he instigated an unnecessary dialogue surrounding elections—disconnected from the mass uprising," Mazhar was reported by Bangladeshi media source bdnews 24.
"No political party was behind the mass uprising. Participants came from grassroots movements. By granting separate legitimacy to parties, Yunus has jeopardized the political agency of the people and empowered numerous corrupt factions. This is unacceptable," he asserted.
Mazhar pointed out that reform efforts under Yunus have faltered due to his absence of grassroots political experience.
"This is a result of political inexperience. He had no justification to yield to political parties. Ultimately, it was the people, not any party, who elevated him to power," Mazhar added.
Earlier this year, Mazhar had predicted that the interim government would inevitably fail.
"Yunus is destined for failure. This government, which may have arisen from the mass uprising, is fated to collapse," he expressed during a gathering of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee.
Mazhar also called for the immediate release of renowned Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das, criticizing the interim government for its approach to communal conflicts.
In a previous Facebook statement, he labeled the interim government under Yunus as "weak and ineffective".
"Release Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaran Mancha and head of Pundarick Dham, immediately. Protect the civic and human rights of all Bangladeshi citizens, irrespective of religion or ethnicity, including Hindus. Cease the destructive communal politics," he remarked.
"We must recognize that Sanatan believers are citizens of Bangladesh. Upholding the civic and human rights of all individuals in Bangladesh, irrespective of religion and ethnicity, is our primary responsibility," Mazhar concluded.
