Bhopal, March 9 (NationPress) In a high-profile case involving infamous smuggler Babu Sindhi and the confiscation of 25,000 kg of narcotics, a special court situated in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh, has rendered its eagerly awaited judgment late Saturday evening.
Three traffickers, including the mastermind Babu Sindhi, have received 15-year prison sentences each, while five co-defendants were acquitted.
Special Judge NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act), Jitendra Kumar Bajolia, announced the verdict in a case that spanned Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
The court found Jaikumar, also known as Babu Sindhi, guilty, along with his accomplices.
Each was sentenced to 15 years in prison and ordered to pay a hefty fine of Rs 2 lakh, concluding a protracted four-year trial that captivated the attention of the Neemuch court.
On August 27, 2021, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CBN) conducted a raid in the industrial zone of Neemuch, seizing an astonishing 25,000 kg of narcotics from a warehouse linked to Babu Sindhi.
This operation resulted in the prompt arrest of Sindhi and his associates, prompting a year-long investigation by the CBN.
In court, the CBN provided a comprehensive 1,650-page dossier to substantiate the case.
The defense was confronted with compelling evidence that revealed a large smuggling operation disguised as a poppy seed trade.
Babu Sindhi was reportedly earning between Rs 30 to 40 lakh daily from the drug trade, diverting his illicit earnings into real estate.
Utilizing the SAFEMA (Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act), authorities confiscated properties worth crores, registered under the names of Babu Sindhi and his spouse.
The court meticulously analyzed all evidence, confirming extensive drug trafficking activities.
Consequently, Babu Sindhi, Rajendra Sharma, and Anurag Airan were sentenced to 15 years and fined Rs 2 lakh, with an additional year of imprisonment for failure to pay the fine.
Among the ten accused, five individuals -- Ashok Dangi, Saurabh Kochatta, Prakash alias Golu Motwari, Pankaj Kumawat, and Kailash Gadiya -- were acquitted due to a lack of sufficient evidence.
Constable Pankaj Kumawat, who was initially dismissed for his connections with the smugglers, was also among those acquitted.
Meanwhile, two accused, Vinod Gurjar and Shivcharan Gurjar, remain fugitives.
The notorious Babu Sindhi, who has been incarcerated for three-and-a-half years, had previously secured parole using a fraudulent medical certificate.
During his temporary release, he was implicated in orchestrating a violent attack on social worker Ashok Arora.
With his parole now revoked, Sindhi faces the grim reality of serving his entire sentence.
Significant revelations emerged, with the court identifying Babu Sindhi as the ringleader of the smuggling operation.
Despite the defense's argument that the warehouse belonged to Kailash Gadiya, the CBN debunked the rental agreement as a forgery, leading to Gadiya's acquittal.
This intense case has finally reached its conclusion, with Babu Sindhi and his associates facing the repercussions of their illicit activities.
