New Delhi, April 4 (NationPress) A total of seventeen Indian-flagged vessels are actively navigating the western Persian Gulf, carrying approximately 460 Indian seafarers, as reported by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas on Saturday.
The government has assured that adequate measures are implemented to guarantee the safety of these vessels amidst the changing maritime landscape.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is diligently overseeing shipping activities, port functions, and the welfare of Indian seafarers, while ensuring seamless maritime commerce.
As per the ministry's latest update, all Indian seafarers in the area are reported safe, with no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels occurring in the last 24 hours.
Additionally, the LPG ship Green Sanvi successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz, transporting 46,650 metric tonnes of LPG with a crew of 25.
The presence of 17 Indian-flagged vessels in the western Persian Gulf is being closely monitored by the Directorate General of Shipping, in collaboration with ship owners, RPSL agencies, and Indian Missions.
The DG Shipping Control Room is operational 24/7, having received 5,015 calls and 10,425 emails since its inception. In just the past 24 hours, it recorded 31 calls and 129 emails.
Furthermore, the Directorate has facilitated the safe return of more than 1,320 Indian seafarers, including 190 in the last day, from various airports and regional locations across the Gulf, as per government sources.
Port operations throughout India are running smoothly, with no reported congestion. State Maritime Boards from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry have confirmed the effective functioning of their operations.
The ministry also emphasized its coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Missions, and other maritime stakeholders to ensure the welfare of seafarers and the continuity of maritime operations.
