New Delhi, Jan 6 (NationPress) A 17-year-old student named Mohit, who suffered severe injuries after being attacked by a group of teenagers in the Trilokpuri neighborhood of East Delhi, tragically lost his life on Tuesday, according to police reports. Authorities have detained six juveniles in connection with the incident.
A murder investigation has been initiated at the Mayur Vihar Police Station, as stated by officials.
The police revealed that on January 5, around 7:25 p.m., they received a distress call from the Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hospital regarding an unconscious male who had been admitted following a violent assault.
The victim was verified as Mohit, the son of Gyan Singh and a Class 11 student residing in Indra Camp, Trilokpuri. After an initial assessment at LBS Hospital, he was transferred to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital for more intensive care. Due to the criticality of his injuries, doctors deemed him unable to provide a statement.
An eyewitness during the preliminary inquiry informed the police that Mohit had been embroiled in an ongoing dispute with one of the involved juveniles from the same area. On the incident's evening, while Mohit was with his friends in Trilokpuri, an argument ensued with a group of minors that quickly escalated into a brutal assault.
The eyewitness recounted that Mohit was encircled by multiple juveniles who relentlessly beat and kicked him. Even after he collapsed to the ground, the aggression continued. Another individual who attempted to intervene was also attacked by the group. Consequently, Mohit lost consciousness at the scene.
At approximately 1:15 a.m. on January 6, GTB Hospital notified the police that Mohit had tragically succumbed to his injuries. Following this, an FIR No. 09/26 was filed at the Mayur Vihar Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), prompting a formal investigation.
DCP East Abhishek Dhaniya remarked that the crime team and officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) examined the crime scene and gathered evidence. Based on the ongoing investigation, all six juveniles involved in the assault have been detained. A post-mortem examination has been completed, and the final medical opinion regarding the cause of death is awaited.
Speaking to the media, Mohit's grandmother expressed her anguish, stating, “A few individuals lured him away and brutally assaulted him. We seek justice. There was no altercation. Even if something transpired, I was unaware. Before his passing, my grandson mentioned that 10-12 people had attacked him. My child is gone, but I demand justice.”
This incident has raised alarm among local residents, who express that increasing violence involving minors has contributed to a climate of fear in the community. Police officials have pledged that a comprehensive investigation is in progress and that stringent actions will be enforced according to the law.
