Why Were 23 Foreign Nationals Detained for Illegal Residency in Hyderabad?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Feb 17 (NationPress) The Hyderabad Police have detained 23 foreign nationals for overstaying in the country during a comprehensive Cordon and Search Operation. This operation was initiated based on reliable intelligence regarding individuals residing illegally.
On Monday night, the operation targeted specific locations including Paramount Colony (Gates 1 to 4), IAS Colony, and Hakeempet Kunta, as stated by a police officer on Tuesday.
Under the leadership of G. Chandra Mohan, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Golconda Zone, a total of 250 personnel were deployed for this mission.
The operation involved a systematic approach with 10 search teams, seven cut-off units, five lifting groups, and two holding areas.
The main goal was to identify foreigners who have overstayed their visas. With the collaboration of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), officials successfully identified 23 illegal residents from various nations.
In addition to detaining these individuals, the police confiscated 30 two-wheelers lacking valid documentation, nine gas cylinders (three large and six small) used for illegal gas refilling, and 53 liquor bottles (180ml and 90ml) that were illegally possessed/sold.
The DCP highlighted that the police of the Golconda Zone are dedicated to ensuring public safety and strictly enforcing residency regulations. Legal proceedings against those in violation are underway.
The nationalities of the detained individuals have not been disclosed. However, numerous foreigners, primarily from African countries, are known to reside in Paramount Colony and surrounding areas of Tolichowki.
Similar operations aimed at identifying illegally residing foreigners have been conducted in the past.
In recent months, authorities in collaboration with FRRO and other agencies have deported foreigners who were found to be living in the country even after their visas had expired. These actions were particularly pertinent in numerous drug-related cases allegedly involving foreigners.
Last month, a Nigerian national was arrested by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) for illegally overstaying in India and was associated with drug trafficking. He was subsequently deported to Nigeria to safeguard national security.
