Raipur/Bijapur, March 31 (NationPress) In a significant advancement for anti-Naxal efforts in Chhattisgarh, 25 Maoist members linked to the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee have surrendered, reintegrating into society.
This event took place as part of the “Poona Margem” initiative aimed at rehabilitation and rejuvenation on Tuesday.
The individuals surrendering, which included 12 women, had a total reward of Rs 1.47 crore placed on their heads. In conjunction with their surrender, security forces achieved a record recovery in Maoist history, confiscating assets valued at Rs 14.06 crore. This sweep included Rs 2.90 crore in cash and 7.20 kilograms of gold worth Rs 11.16 crore.
Moreover, a total of 93 dangerous weapons were recovered, featuring LMGs, AK-47 rifles, SLR rifles, and INSAS rifles.
Among the notable figures who surrendered were senior Maoist leaders such as Mangal Korsa alias Motu, Akash alias Phagu Uika, DVCM (divisional committee member) Shankar Muchaki, ACM Raju Raiyam alias Munna, and ACM Pale Kursam.
These individuals recognized the futility of ongoing violence and opted to reintegrate into the national mainstream. The surrender ceremony was graced by high-ranking officials, including Inspector General of Police Bastar Range Sundarraj P, Deputy Inspector General of Police BS Negi, Superintendent of Police Dr Jitendra Kumar Yadav, along with other police and administrative officers, and the families of the surrendering cadres.
Since the beginning of 2024, a total of 1,003 Maoist cadres have surrendered in Bijapur district under the rehabilitation initiative. The cumulative recoveries in the area now total Rs 19.43 crore, comprising Rs 6.63 crore in cash and 8.20 kilograms of gold.
The Chhattisgarh government, in collaboration with central security forces, is providing comprehensive support for the rehabilitation, security, and dignified reintegration of these former cadres into society.
Security agencies have called upon remaining Maoist cadres to lay down their arms and return to the mainstream, promising them a secure and prosperous future.
