Kochi, Feb 7 (NationPress) In a heartbreaking incident, a three-year-old boy from Rajasthan, who had just arrived with his parents at the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), was discovered in a waste pit on Friday after being reported missing for some time.

Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, the child succumbed shortly after arrival.

Once the parents realized their child was unaccounted for, they initiated a search, with security personnel joining in. After reviewing CCTV footage, they identified the child in a waste pit located in a secluded area of the airport.

The family, part of a visiting group from Rajasthan, had been at a cafe in the airport complex close to the domestic terminal when the child went missing.

This waste pit is situated in a location devoid of pathways, bordered by buildings on one side and densely vegetated on three sides.

The authorities at CIAL have expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy and are providing assistance to the grieving family.

CIAL, recognized as the first airport in India to adopt the now-popular PPP model, stands as the largest airport in Kerala and was conceived by the esteemed former Chief Minister, K. Karunakaran, in 1999.

To date, shareholders who invested in the airport have received substantial returns in the form of dividends.

In the last fiscal year alone, the airport managed over 70,000 flights, catering to more than one crore passengers. CIAL reported a profit after tax of Rs 412 crore and declared a 45% dividend during the same period.
