Guwahati, Jan 24 (NationPress) A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck Assam and several neighboring states in the northeast around midnight on Friday. Fortunately, officials have reported no damage to properties or loss of life.

The National Centre of Seismology (NCS) indicated that the quake's epicenter was located in Myanmar and occurred at a depth of at least 106 km below the earth's surface.

Residents across various locations in the northeastern states felt the tremor.

It is noteworthy that just two days earlier, two earthquakes measuring 4.3 and 3.3 on the Richter scale rattled the mountainous districts of Churachandpur and Pherzawl in southern Manipur on Wednesday night.

According to officials, a moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred in Pherzawl district and surrounding regions on the same night.

The NCS data revealed that this tremor hit at a depth of 40 km.

Just 49 minutes later, another quake measuring 3.3 struck Churachandpur district and nearby areas around 9:46 p.m.

This second tremor was registered at a depth of 30 km, as per NCS reports.

Disaster Management officials confirmed that there were no immediate reports of injuries or property damage related to these two consecutive quakes.

The borders of Pherzawl district touch Mizoram and Assam, while Churachandpur district shares borders with Mizoram and Myanmar.

The recent tremor in Manipur followed six separate earthquakes within the state and seven quakes across northeastern states this month.

Earlier on January 2, a quake of 3.1 struck Churachandpur district, followed by a 3.8 tremor in Tamenglong district on the same day. Additional quakes in Kamjong district (3.1) on January 5, Kangpokpi district (3.6) on January 7, and Kangpokpi district again (3.3) on January 13, as well as a 3.3 quake in Tamenglong district on January 17, and a 4.1 quake in Meghalaya's South West Khasi Hills district on January 21.
