Umaria, April 9 (NationPress) Following the grim discovery of a tiger's dismembered body within the forests of Umaria district, the Forest Department has apprehended five individuals linked to the poaching incident, as confirmed by a forest official to IANS on Thursday.

During the operation, officials seized wooden pegs and galvanized iron wires, which were allegedly utilized to create an illegal electrical trap in the forest.
Investigations indicated that the tiger was electrocuted in Compartment P-111, where the accused had set a lethal trap using live wires.
Pataudi noted that initial findings suggest the accused had been engaged in poaching for an extended period, targeting wildlife by laying electrified wires deep within forest territories. Any animal that came into contact with these wires was immediately killed.
He added that after the tiger was electrocuted, the suspects panicked and attempted to cover up their crime. Reports suggest they dragged the carcass to a different location to dispose of it.
One of the suspects is believed to have removed the tiger's teeth, raising alarms about possible connections to wildlife trafficking.
Pataudi further mentioned that the accused will be presented before the Umaria district court.
In response to this incident, authorities have ramped up patrolling and monitoring efforts in the area to deter similar occurrences.
This incident marks the 18th reported tiger death in Madhya Pradesh this year, raising fresh concerns regarding wildlife conservation in the state.
The decomposed remains of the tiger were discovered in dense underbrush within the jurisdiction of the Forest Development Corporation earlier this week.
