Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Shahdol, Feb 2 (NationPress) Two tigers—one male and one female—have been found dead under mysterious circumstances in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol district, leading senior forest officials to launch an urgent investigation in the region.
Reports indicate that the remains of the tigers were discovered in Banchachar village, part of the Jaisinghnagar range in the North Forest division. A forest officer informed IANS on Monday that the carcass of the tigress was located on Sunday evening, while the male tiger’s body was found approximately 100 meters away the following morning, prompting an extensive search operation by the forest team.
Divisional Forest Officer Taruna Verma confirmed the deaths of the two tigers and stated that the precise cause of death is currently under investigation. “A post-mortem examination is underway, and all aspects of the case are being thoroughly scrutinized to determine the exact cause of death,” she stated.
Verma also mentioned that the forest department has deployed a dog squad, field staff, and expert teams to carry out a comprehensive search in the vicinity. “We are looking into the involvement of a local farmer, and strict legal action will be pursued if he is found culpable,” she added.
Wildlife activist Ajay Dubey alleged that both tigers succumbed to electrocution due to an illegally placed electric wire by a farmer intended to protect crops from wildlife. He raised concerns about the continuous killing of tigers in Madhya Pradesh, attributing it to the negligence of forest officials. “It’s high time that senior forest officials are held accountable for these tragic events,” Dubey commented, expressing his intention to write to the Chief Minister's Office and the State Wildlife Board regarding this pressing issue.
Madhya Pradesh, often recognized as a 'Tiger State,' has reported a staggering total of 55 tiger deaths in 2025, the highest in the nation.
