Bhopal/Piparia, Feb 7 (NationPress) A 39-year-old individual tragically lost his life in a suspected big cat attack within the Bankhedi territorial forest range located in the Piparia tehsil of Madhya Pradesh's Narmadapuram district. Forest officials are currently investigating, with initial indications pointing towards a tiger as the prime suspect, pending the results of a post-mortem examination.

The deceased, Kamal Thakur, hailed from Bari Devi village. His body was discovered approximately 100 meters from his home near Dam Mohalla Jhiria village, in an old hamlet known as Dokrikheda.

“He was found lifeless among the bushes roughly 100 meters from his residence early Saturday morning,” reported a forest official to IANS. The condition of his body suggested a fierce confrontation.

A local milkman encountered the remains and promptly informed the family, leading to immediate notification of the forest authorities, the official added.

Senior officials in the forestry department indicated that the attack likely transpired in the early hours of Saturday. “It could potentially be a leopard,” one official remarked cautiously, “but only the post-mortem examination will definitively identify the wild animal involved.”

Nevertheless, forest teams have discovered pug marks from both a tiger and a leopard in the area, raising alarms about big cat activity nearby.

Thakur served as a cook at the army officers' mess in Pachmarhi and often returned to his native village during weekends.

Residents of Bari Devi and Jhiria had previously reported sightings of tigers, emphasizing a persistent human-wildlife conflict in this border forest region.

“We have initiated a compensation process for the family amounting to Rs 8 lakh, with an immediate relief of Rs 25,000 provided to assist with funeral arrangements,” stated Vaibhav Bairagi, tehsildar of Piparia, in a conversation with IANS.

Authorities have commenced an investigation, which includes an examination of the scene and evidence collection from the pug marks. A post-mortem is currently being conducted to ascertain the precise cause and species involved.
