Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolar, Feb 17 (NationPress) Karnataka's Minister for Large and Medium Industries, M B Patil, revealed on Tuesday that 500 H125 light helicopters are set to be produced over the next 20 years at India's inaugural private-sector helicopter assembly facility.
In a virtual ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron inaugurated the unit from Lok Bhavan in Maharashtra on Tuesday.
The minister emphasized that the initiation of operations signifies a transformative milestone for Karnataka.
He mentioned that upon taking office as Industries Minister, 17 acres were designated for this project. Expressing his contentment, he noted that the facility was completed and launched in a remarkable 1.5 years.
With quick approvals, streamlined coordination, prepared infrastructure, and robust industry collaboration, the timely execution of this initiative was assured.
Karnataka is now home to the world’s fourth H125 helicopter manufacturing and Final Assembly Line (FAL) facility, following France, the US, and Brazil, further enhancing the state’s aerospace ecosystem.
He pointed out that the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility alongside the assembly unit showcases Karnataka’s favorable industrial climate.
The unit is slated to initially produce 10 helicopters annually, with plans to ramp up production to 500 in the next two decades. Critical tasks like avionics integration, hydraulic circuit assembly, component fitting, fuel system installation, and engine assembly will be conducted at this facility.
Patil expressed pride that the state won the project against stiff competition from Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat.
Airbus dominates the global market with nearly 80 percent share in the single-engine helicopter sector, with around 4,300 helicopters in operation worldwide, totaling over 38 million flying hours.
The minister asserted that the state possesses the required reliability and engineering prowess to produce H125 helicopters and reiterated the government’s dedication to collaborating with the Centre for further advancements in this sector.
This facility signifies India's escalating capabilities and expanding international collaborations. It is expected to create considerable prospects for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and foster job creation.
Patil added that this project will enhance access to cutting-edge technology-driven sectors for the youth in the state.
