New Delhi, Oct 1 (NationPress) The anticipated delivery of the first ‘Made in India’ Airbus H125 helicopter is set for early 2027, and it will also be available for export across the South Asian region, as announced on Wednesday.
India’s inaugural helicopter Final Assembly Line (FAL) from the private sector, established by Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), will manufacture Airbus H125 helicopters in Vemagal, Karnataka.
This initiative is expected to unleash the complete potential of the rotorcraft market in South Asia.
“India is an ideal helicopter country. A ‘Made in India’ helicopter will foster the development of this market and position helicopters as vital assets for nation-building,” stated Jurgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia.
“We are thrilled to add this new chapter to our diverse partnership with our esteemed collaborators, Tata,” he added.
The ‘Made in India’ H125 helicopter aims to develop new civil and para-public market segments while also fulfilling the Indian armed forces' requirements for a light multi-role helicopter, particularly in the challenging icy terrains of the Himalayan frontiers.
Plans for a military variant, the H125M, will be produced from this Indian facility, featuring a high degree of indigenized components and technologies.
“Tata Advanced Systems is honored to be the first private sector entity in India to manufacture helicopters. This will enhance both civil and defense needs. This marks our second FAL in collaboration with Airbus, further strengthening the partnership between Tata and Airbus for India,” said Sukaran Singh, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Advanced Systems Limited.
He noted that Tata Advanced Systems is well-positioned in the Indian aerospace sector, capable of producing and delivering fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters to meet the nation's demands.
This project will significantly contribute to the growth of India's aviation industry, especially in civil and defense applications.
The ‘Made in India’ H125 helicopters will serve crucial functions, including emergency medical services, disaster relief, tourism, and law enforcement.
