Varanasi, Jan 22 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is making significant strides in Varanasi, his electoral constituency, as 77,000 individuals have successfully enrolled in the initiative.

The program is designed to offer solar energy solutions to households, leading to a remarkable decrease in electricity expenses while promoting the adoption of sustainable energy sources. The local administration in Varanasi is committed to ensuring that every household benefits from this initiative, with solar panels already installed in over 11,000 homes, and many more installations planned.

Beneficiaries of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana are expressing their satisfaction, with numerous individuals reporting considerable reductions in their electricity bills due to the implementation of solar panels. Additionally, subsidies are being credited to their accounts within a week of registration, further solidifying the scheme's attractiveness.

Anumati, a resident of Om Nagar, shared her journey: “We were contemplating solar panel installation prior to the launch of this scheme, and it was a fortunate coincidence that we installed them on the day of the Pran Pratishtha of Lord Shri Ram ji. Before the installation, our electricity bills ranged from Rs 2000 to 2500, but following the installation of solar panels, our bills decreased to merely Rs 500. Even during times of high consumption, our bill rarely surpasses Rs 2500 to Rs 3000, leading to savings of approximately Rs 3000 each month. We are genuinely thankful to the Prime Minister for this initiative. The subsidy was credited in just 15 days, and the whole process was seamless.”

Another beneficiary, Abhishek, recounted how solar panels revolutionized his energy consumption: “Previously, my monthly bill fluctuated between Rs 24,000 and Rs 25,000. After acquiring the solar system with a 10-kilowatt connection, my bills have dramatically dropped. In winter, I am even saving electricity units. I can confidently say this is a commendable scheme, and I hope many more individuals seize this opportunity.”

The success of the initiative is echoed by Himanshu Nagpal, Chief Development Officer (CDO) of Varanasi. He noted that over 45,000 beneficiaries have submitted applications, with 11,000 homes already reaping the benefits of solar installations.

“This scheme has achieved significant success in Varanasi, and PM Modi is consistently monitoring its progress. We are witnessing exceptional results, with some beneficiaries even reporting zero electricity bills. The combination of subsidies and financing options is making solar energy accessible to everyone,” Nagpal stated.

Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the government offers a subsidy of Rs 78,000 for up to three kilowatts of solar power from the central government, along with an additional Rs 30,000 from the state government. This financial assistance facilitates the transition to solar energy for families without initial costs. Furthermore, banks like the Bank of Baroda, the State Bank of India, and the Punjab National Bank provide loan options for solar panel installations, ensuring inclusivity.

The installation of solar panels is expected to accelerate, with aspirations to transform Kashi into a solar city. “Our ambition is to expand this initiative to rural regions and establish solar-powered villages. We are also collaborating with companies to facilitate the installation of solar panels in homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana,” Nagpal added.

The PM Surya Ghar Yojana is not solely about electricity provision; it is part of a broader vision to position India as a leader in renewable energy. By 2027, the government targets to supply solar energy to one crore households, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.
