New Delhi, Dec 3 (NationPress) The aggregate number of Internet subscribers in India rose from 1002.85 million at the conclusion of the April-June quarter (Q1 FY26) to 1017.81 million at the end of the July-September period (Q2 FY26), reflecting a quarterly growth of 1.49 per cent, as reported by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Wednesday.

According to the report, out of the 1017.81 million internet subscribers, Wired Internet users comprise 44.42 million, while Wireless Internet users account for 973.39 million.

Additionally, the broadband Internet subscriber count grew by 1.63 per cent, increasing from 979.71 million in June to 995.63 million by the end of September this year. Conversely, the narrowband Internet subscriber base saw a decline from 23.14 million in the June quarter to 22.18 million by the September quarter.

Simultaneously, wireline subscribers fell from 47.49 million at the end of the April-June quarter to 46.61 million at the end of September, marking a quarterly decline of 1.84 per cent. However, on a year-on-year (YoY) basis, wireline subscriptions experienced a substantial increase of 26.21 per cent by the end of the July-September quarter.

The wireline tele-density also diminished from 3.36 per cent at the end of Q1 FY26 to 3.29 per cent at the conclusion of Q2 FY26, exhibiting a quarterly decline of 2.06 per cent. Meanwhile, the monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) for wireless services surged by 2.34 per cent, rising from Rs 186.62 in the first quarter to Rs 190.99 in the second quarter of the fiscal year.

The ARPU for wireless services also saw a remarkable annual increase of 10.67 per cent in this quarter. For the quarter under review, the monthly ARPU for the pre-paid segment was Rs 189.69, while post-paid users averaged Rs 204.55. On an all-India basis, the overall MOU per month slightly dipped by 0.10 per cent, from 1006 in the April-June period to 1005 at the end of the July-September period.

The complete Internet subscriber base includes a broadband Internet subscriber count of 995.63 million and a narrowband Internet subscriber count of 22.18 million.
