New Delhi, March 3 (NationPress) - The telecom industry in India is witnessing remarkable growth, with internet users surpassing the 1.02 billion mark as of December 2025. This data comes from the latest performance report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released on Tuesday. The report indicates a robust increase in both internet and telephone subscriptions, alongside rising revenues and average earnings for telecom companies.
According to the report, the number of internet subscribers rose from 1,017.81 million in September 2025 to 1,028.61 million by the end of December 2025, marking a quarterly growth rate of 1.06%.
Of these users, 983.29 million were wireless subscribers, while 45.32 million were wired connections. Notably, the broadband subscriber count has exceeded 1 billion, reaching 1,007.35 million, demonstrating a consistent demand for high-speed internet services.
Telephone subscriptions also saw a significant increase, jumping from 1,228.94 million in September to 1,306.14 million in December, a quarterly growth of 6.28% and a year-on-year rise of 9.77%.
The overall tele-density in India improved from 86.65% to 91.74% during the same period. The number of wireless subscribers, including both mobile and fixed wireless access users, surged by 76.45 million to a total of 1,258.77 million.
Additionally, the telecom sector has reported a strong financial performance, with a Gross Revenue of Rs 1,02,475 crore for the December quarter, and an Adjusted Gross Revenue of Rs 84,270 crore. Both metrics experienced growth both quarterly and year-on-year. The Monthly Average Revenue Per User for wireless services rose to Rs 194.57, up from Rs 190.99 in the previous quarter, reflecting enhanced earnings per subscriber.
In the broadcasting industry, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has approved 920 private satellite TV channels, with 335 categorized as pay TV channels while the rest are free-to-air.
