New Delhi, July 29 (NationPress) The total number of broadband subscribers saw an increase from 974.87 million at the end of May to 979.71 million in June, marking a monthly growth rate of 0.50 percent, as reported by the government on Tuesday.

In June, a total of 13.58 million subscribers requested Mobile Number Portability (MNP), according to data from TRAI.

The total number of telephone subscribers in India rose from 1,207.08 million at the end of May to 1,218.36 million at the end of June, reflecting a monthly growth rate of 0.93 percent.

The number of wireless (mobile) subscribers increased from 1,161.03 million at the end of May to 1,163.03 million at the end of June, showing a monthly growth rate of 0.17 percent.

In urban areas, wireless (mobile) subscriptions grew from 630.42 million at the end of May to 633.14 million at the end of June, while rural wireless subscriptions decreased from 530.60 million to 529.88 million during the same timeframe.

The monthly growth rates for urban and rural wireless subscriptions were 0.43 percent and -0.14 percent, respectively.

The overall wireline tele-density in India increased from 2.73 percent at the end of May to 3.36 percent at the end of June. The urban wireline tele-density was 8.25 percent, while rural wireline tele-density stood at 0.61 percent on June 30.

As of June 2025, the shares of urban and rural subscribers in total wireline subscribers were 88.42 percent and 11.58 percent, respectively.

According to the data, BSNL, MTNL, and APSFL, the three public sector access service providers, held 21.04 percent of the wireline market share.

“As of June 30, 2025, private access service providers controlled 92.20 percent of the wireless (mobile) subscriber market, whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two public sector units, had a mere 7.80 percent market share,” the TRAI data indicated.
