New Delhi, March 11 (NationPress) The overall count of broadband subscribers in India experienced a slight uptick in December 2024, reaching 944.96 million from 944.76 million in November, according to the Ministry of Communications.

This change reflects a modest monthly growth rate of 0.02 percent. The leading five broadband service providers maintained their dominance in the market, representing 98.40 percent of the entire broadband user base, which encompasses both wired and wireless connections.

Additionally, urban telephone subscribers registered a rise, climbing to 663.37 million in December from 660.62 million in the prior month.

The urban sector noted a net addition of 3.50 million subscribers, equating to a monthly growth rate of 0.53 percent.

In total, the number of telephone subscribers nationwide reached 1,189.92 million by the end of December, with a net increase of 2.78 million users.

The overall tele-density, which measures the number of telephone connections per 100 individuals, rose to 84.45 percent in December from 81.67 percent in November.

Urban tele-density increased to 131.50 percent, while rural tele-density saw a slight improvement to 58.22 percent, as reported by the Ministry.

Furthermore, the interest in mobile number portability (MNP) remained robust, with 13.85 million subscribers making MNP requests in December.

This brought the total number of MNP requests to 1,079.19 million since its inception. The count of active wireless subscribers, based on peak visitor location register (VLR) data, reached 1,060.34 million in December 2024.

According to data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), approximately 13.45 million subscribers filed MNP requests in October last year, raising the cumulative MNP requests from 1,039.11 million at the end of September to 1,052.56 million in October.

Wireline subscribers grew from 36.93 million in September to 37.79 million by the end of October, as per government data.

As of October 31, BSNL, MTNL, and APSFL, the three public sector access service providers, collectively controlled a 23.29 percent share of the wireline market.
