New Delhi, April 24 (NationPress) The total number of broadband subscribers reached 944.04 million by the end of February, according to data from 1,189 operators provided by the government on Thursday.
During February, there were 12.06 million requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP). Consequently, the total MNP requests rose from 1,093.33 million at January's end to 1,105.39 million by February's close, as reported by TRAI.
Private access service providers maintained a dominant 92.03 percent market share of the wireless (mobile) subscriber base, while BSNL and MTNL, the public sector access service providers, accounted for a mere 7.97 percent.
The total number of telephone subscribers in India grew from 1,192.03 million to 1,197.23 million in February, reflecting a monthly growth rate of 0.42 percent.
Urban telephone subscriptions surged from 663.83 million to 667.93 million, and rural subscriptions also rose from 528.20 million to 529.31 million during this period.
The overall tele-density in India improved from 84.54 percent at the end of January to 84.85 percent at February's end.
Urban tele-density climbed from 131.40 percent at January's conclusion to 132.01 percent by the end of February, while rural tele-density increased from 58.38 percent to 58.48 percent.
As of February’s end, urban and rural subscribers made up 55.79 percent and 44.21 percent of the total telephone subscriber base, respectively.
