TRAI Reports 13.4 Million Requests for Mobile Number Portability in October

New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) Approximately 13.45 million subscribers submitted their requests for mobile number portability (MNP) in October this year, increasing the cumulative MNP requests from 1,039.11 million at the end of September to 1,052.56 million in October, as indicated by government data released on Monday.

The number of active wireless subscribers reached 1,066.67 million in October, based on data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

According to feedback from 1,175 operators, the total count of broadband subscribers was 941.47 million by the end of October.

The total count of wireless subscribers was 1,150.42 million at the end of October, reflecting a slight monthly decline of 0.29 percent.

In contrast, wireline subscribers grew from 36.93 million at the end of September to 37.79 million at the end of October. The three public sector undertakings (PSUs) providing access services—BSNL, MTNL, and APSFL—held 23.29 percent of the wireline market share as of October 31.

As of October 31, private access service providers commanded 91.78 percent of the wireless subscriber market, while BSNL and MTNL collectively held a mere 8.22 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of machine-to-machine (M2M) cellular mobile connections rose from 54.64 million at the end of September to 56.12 million by the end of October.

Bharti Airtel Limited led in M2M cellular mobile connections with 29.08 million connections, capturing a market share of 51.82 percent.

The overall tele-density in India was 84.69 percent at the end of September, dropping to 84.46 percent by the end of October.

During the same period, the urban tele-density was 131.31 percent, while rural tele-density stood at 58.39 percent. The distribution of urban and rural subscribers among the total number of telephone subscribers as of the end of October was 55.58 percent urban and 44.42 percent rural.
