Agartala, Dec 3 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Wednesday that more than 50,000 vehicles across the state are now powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), marking a notable shift towards sustainable transportation.
During the inauguration of a new CNG station operated by Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL) in Khilpara, located in the Gomati district of southern Tripura, the Chief Minister revealed plans to establish additional CNG stations in Fatikchhara and Bodhjungnagar within the West Tripura district.
He emphasized the global acceptance of CNG and highlighted that the BJP government is dedicated to addressing the fundamental issues faced by the citizens.
“CNG is a clean fuel that is gaining traction alongside advancements in civilization and technology. It is essential for any developed area. The CNG station inaugurated today will serve as a central hub, gradually distributing gas to surrounding areas,” stated Saha.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude towards TNGCL for their efforts and mentioned that the company intends to expand CNG stations beyond just Agartala and Udaipur to various locations across the state.
He asserted the importance of clean energy in propelling the state forward and noted that since 2018, TNGCL has successfully launched approximately 31 CNG stations, significantly contributing to reducing air pollution.
“This will not only promote a healthier environment but also lead to cost savings. Presently, TNGCL supplies fuel to over 50,000 vehicles in the state,” he explained.
The establishment of the Khilpara CNG station, which cost Rs 8 crore, will benefit auto drivers, taxi operators, and private vehicle owners.
TNGCL is also working on upgrading existing CNG stations in Arundhuti Nagar and Barjala, he mentioned.
“The increase in CNG stations will serve the community well. The trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on the rise, as is the public's confidence in our administration in Tripura,” he added.
The Chief Minister shared that two new plots have been allocated for CNG stations in Mohanpur in West Tripura and confirmed that further discussions with TNGCL will occur to establish stations at Khayerpur-Amtali bypass, Bagma, Amarpur, and Ampi in Gomati district.
The event saw the participation of notable figures, including Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, and other local representatives.
TNGCL, established in July 1990, is one of the fastest-growing Natural Gas Distribution Companies in Eastern India, operating as a joint venture with GAIL (India) Ltd, Tripura Industrial Development Corporation, and Assam Gas Company Ltd. The company provides eco-friendly and affordable natural gas to various sectors across West Tripura and Gomati Districts.
