Agartala, March 14 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday urged senior police officials, law enforcement bodies, lawyers, and other relevant parties to implement measures to boost the conviction rates.

While launching five additional mobile forensic vans for five districts in Tripura, CM Saha, who also oversees the Home portfolio, noted that according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the state’s crime statistics are more favorable compared to other states in India.

“Nevertheless, we must work towards improving the conviction rate of crimes. To achieve this, investigating officers, witnesses, lawyers, public prosecutors, and all involved must exert significant efforts,” the Chief Minister emphasized.

Previously, three mobile forensic vans were allocated to three districts, and with the addition of five more, a total of eight districts in Tripura are now equipped with these mobile forensic units.

A mobile forensic van, or mobile crime lab, is a specially designed vehicle utilized by crime scene investigators to carry out forensic examinations at crime scenes, facilitating swift and effective evidence collection, processing, and storage, a senior police official clarified.

Referring to the NCRB reports, CM Saha indicated that among the 28 states in India, Tripura ranks as the third best in overall crime reduction and eighth best in crimes against women. To effectively address crimes against women, nine all-women police stations have been established across all eight districts, with the West Tripura district housing two such facilities, he mentioned.

He remarked that improving women's economic status would contribute to a reduction in crimes against them, adding that to empower women, the state has allocated 33 percent reservations for women in government jobs. Breaking barriers and stigma, 137 women have been recruited into Tripura’s elite force, the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), he stated.

CM Saha further asserted that the current BJP administration is dedicated to ensuring the safety and economic empowerment of women.

He highlighted that the state government is taking numerous measures to eliminate dowry-related incidents, stating that 80 Deputy Collectors have been designated as District Dowry Prohibition Officers, and all Sub-divisional Magistrates have been appointed as Dowry Prohibition Officers to combat dowry-related issues.
