Agartala, Dec 21 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha stated on Saturday that the BJP government is committed to maintaining law and order, revealing a significant reduction in overall crime rates until November 2025 compared to 2023.
During a high-level review meeting on law and order at Pragna Bhawan with senior police officials, the Chief Minister highlighted the pivotal role that police stations play in effective governance. Saha, who oversees the home portfolio, emphasized that the service delivery system starts at the police station level.
“We operate 90 police stations and nine dedicated women’s police stations. In the past, political interference disrupted discipline within the police. We must eradicate that practice. I have never contacted any Officer-in-Charge (OC), nor do I meddle in police operations,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister stressed the need to respect police personnel, remarking that the uniform symbolizes responsibility and honor. “In the past, police officers were often judged by political affiliations. Such practices must cease. Officers will be recognized for their performance. I conduct bi-weekly review meetings with Superintendents of Police (SPs) and District Magistrates (DMs) based on reports and feedback,” he added.
Saha instructed OCs to oversee daily FIR registrations and ensure they are accurately documented. He also underscored the necessity of counseling, prompt filing of charge sheets to prevent justice delays, and maintaining physical fitness among police personnel.
The Chief Minister noted a remarkable decline in crime statistics across all categories. Crimes against individuals fell from 1,385 cases in 2023 to 753 cases in 2025 by November.
Furthermore, property-related crimes dropped from 412 to 275 cases during the same timeframe, while crimes against women decreased from 791 cases in 2023 to 627 cases in 2025 by November. Addressing drug-related cases under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985, Saha reiterated the government’s unwavering zero-tolerance stance.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have unequivocally declared a zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related crimes. Overall crime incidents have fallen from 5,002 in 2023 to 3,386 in 2025 up to November,” he asserted. He affirmed that the government remains vigilant regarding issues related to Bangladesh, communal tensions, and illegal traders, emphasizing that there will be no leniency on law and order.
“If we all unite in our efforts, we can forge a new India and a revitalized Tripura,” he concluded, directing police officers to act resolutely, independently, and strictly according to the law. Present at the meeting were Director General of Police Anurag, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, and other senior officials.
