Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday, 5 August declared there would be 'no room for leniency' in the state's fight against narcotics and crime, directing the police and civil administration to intensify coordinated enforcement and, if required, constitute a special task force to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb criminal activity.

Key Directives from the CM

Addressing a Task Monitoring System virtual meeting held from the State Civil Secretariat in Agartala, Saha called on every level of administration to operate in a more coordinated, strict, and effective manner in pursuit of the government's stated goal of making Tripura a drug-free state. He specifically asked police and district administrations to map crime-prone areas, strengthen regular patrolling, and heighten surveillance — particularly around schools, colleges, and other vulnerable locations.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to ensure round-the-clock CCTV surveillance and additional police deployment around the GBP Hospital area in Agartala, flagging it as a zone requiring immediate attention. A zero-tolerance approach against narcotics-related offences was explicitly mandated.

Tourism, Infrastructure and Public Services

Highlighting Tripura's growing tourism profile — which Saha said has gained national recognition — the Chief Minister instructed departments and district administrations to keep major destinations including Chhabimura, Unakoti, Dumboor, and Neermahal clean, well-maintained, and visitor-friendly through regular inspections.

On infrastructure, Saha reviewed the status of roads, electricity supply, and drinking water services across the state. Referring to the Jal Jeevan Mission, he noted that nearly 85–86 per cent of the project has been completed and directed officials to expedite the remaining work, with specific instructions to find innovative solutions for drinking water scarcity in districts such as Khowai. He also sought detailed updates on the progress toward operationalising Kailashahar Airport.

Education and Governance

Reviewing the education sector, Saha stressed that beyond academic standards, school infrastructure, cleanliness, notice boards, and the overall learning environment must be monitored regularly. He instructed District Magistrates to intensify school inspections and warned that negligence in official duties would not be tolerated.

The Chief Minister also urged government officials at all levels to engage with the public courteously, patiently, and with sensitivity — underscoring a citizen-centric model of governance where services are delivered with efficiency and accountability.

National Celebrations and Administrative Preparations

Saha directed District Magistrates to make comprehensive preparations for the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, scheduled from 9 to 17 August, and for programmes marking the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. The main state-level function is to be organised at Ujjayanta Palace on 11 August, with the CM calling for active public participation.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, Directors, and other senior officials, while District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police, and officers from all eight districts participated virtually. As the state prepares to tighten enforcement on multiple fronts, the effectiveness of these directives will depend on how swiftly the administration translates orders into ground-level action.
