Agartala, Aug 16 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Saturday that law enforcement and security agencies have been directed to implement stringent measures against individuals engaged in drug smuggling.
The Chief Minister, while inaugurating a voluntary blood donation camp, highlighted that the quantities of drugs both destroyed and seized have seen a remarkable rise recently in Tripura. Saha, who oversees both Home and Health and Family Welfare, noted that both boys and girls are increasingly falling prey to drug addiction.
He emphasized that the state government has intensified its battle against the drug crisis and shared that various security forces, including police, are conducting rigorous operations targeting drugs regularly.
Furthermore, he revealed ongoing efforts to apprehend drug kingpins. “The police and other agencies have been directed to ensure that no one linked to drugs escapes justice. We have adopted a zero-tolerance approach in our war against drugs. We are diligently working towards that goal,” Saha stated.
He revealed that the amount of drugs destroyed has surged by 132% this year compared to the same timeframe last year, with drug seizures rising by 104% in the same period.
The Chief Minister urged parents to be more alert regarding their children and to recognize the detrimental effects of drugs.
“Just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is advancing the nation, we are also striving to progress,” he said.
He acknowledged that not all issues can be resolved overnight, as it is impossible to reverse the atmosphere cultivated by the Communists and Congress over the past 40 years.
“This requires significant time. Yet, we aspire to create a beautiful state. India has now risen to the fourth position in terms of economy, whereas it was previously in the 11th position. Tripura ranks second among Northeastern states regarding GSDP and per capita income,” he elaborated. Saha encouraged people, organizations, and clubs to engage in blood donation on a larger scale, stating that there is no greater act of charity than donating blood.
“We can donate clothes, money, food, and education, but blood is a gift that cannot be purchased. Blood donation evokes a divine feeling and can inspire others through this noble act. We lead other states in blood donation; out of every 100 individuals, 15 belong to a negative blood group. Therefore, maintaining a sufficient supply of negative blood is crucial,” Saha, a physician turned politician, concluded.
