Agartala, Aug 16 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized on Saturday that police and various security forces have been directed to take stringent measures against individuals involved in drug trafficking.
The Chief Minister, during the launch of a voluntary blood donation camp, noted a remarkable surge in the quantity of drugs both destroyed and seized in Tripura recently. Saha, who manages both the Home and Health and Family Welfare departments, highlighted the alarming trend of drug addiction affecting both boys and girls.
He stated that the state government has intensified its battle against the drug crisis, with various security agencies, including the police, conducting rigorous operations regularly.
Saha announced that efforts are underway to apprehend the drug kingpin.
“Police and other agencies have been commanded to ensure that no one linked to drugs escapes justice. A zero-tolerance policy is in place in our fight against drugs. We are committed to this cause,” Saha declared.
He revealed that the quantity of drugs destroyed has risen by 132 percent this year compared to the same timeframe last year, while drug seizures have increased by 104 percent during the same period.
The Chief Minister urged parents to remain vigilant about their children and aware of the detrimental effects of drugs.
“Just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is pushing the nation forward, we too are striving for progress,” he stated.
He acknowledged that not all issues can be resolved overnight, especially considering the challenges posed by the policies of past governments over the last 40 years.
“This is a long-term endeavor. Nonetheless, we aspire to create an impressive state. India now ranks fourth in economic standings, having improved from the eleventh place. Tripura ranks second among the Northeastern states regarding GSDP and per capita income,” he added. Saha called upon the public, various organizations, and clubs to contribute more generously to blood donation, emphasizing that there is no greater gift than donating blood.
“While we can donate clothing, money, or food, blood donation is a unique gift that cannot be purchased. Donating blood evokes a profound sense of purpose. This altruistic act can inspire others. We are leading the country in blood donation rates. Of every 100 people, 15 have a negative blood type, making it essential to maintain a sufficient supply of negative blood,” concluded Saha, a physician turned politician.
