Agartala, May 13 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized on Tuesday that ensuring the safety of citizens and upholding effective law and order is the foremost concern for the ruling BJP government in the state.
While distributing job letters to 643 men and 332 women for police constable positions (totaling 975 posts), the Chief Minister noted that the crime rate has seen a 30 percent decrease over the last decade.
“In comparison to other states, Tripura stands in a significantly better position regarding crimes against women. Every police station in Tripura features a women's help desk, and there is an all-women police station in each of the eight districts, with two in West Tripura,” stated Saha, who also manages the Home portfolio.
Criticizing opposition parties regarding government employment issues, he mentioned that the current BJP administration has provided government jobs to 17,554 individuals from March 2018 to March this year.
“This year alone, we have facilitated jobs for 4,499 people.”
Highlighting the government's efforts to empower women economically, the Chief Minister revealed that 2.1 lakh individuals have become entrepreneurs through MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises), with measures in place to reserve 33 percent jobs for women.
He further announced plans to recruit 6,067 Special Executives and 218 police Sub-Inspectors within the Police department, and the state cabinet recently approved the recruitment of 916 additional police constables.
According to the Chief Minister, road accidents have decreased by 13 percent in 2024 compared to 2023. He stated, “Community policing is an essential tool in enforcing law. ‘Prayaas’ is an initiative by Tripura Police aimed at enhancing the Police-Public Partnership to improve law enforcement services. Over two lakh citizens participated in 9,000 Prayas events across the state.”
Additionally, discussing the ongoing ‘War against drugs’ initiative, Saha noted that the confiscation of drugs increased by 106 percent and drug destruction surged by 132 percent in 2024 compared to 2023.
