Agartala, April 30 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Wednesday that the state's unemployment rate has experienced a remarkable decline over the last seven years since the BJP assumed power in 2018.
During an official function held in the capital, the Chief Minister stated that data from the periodic labour force survey conducted by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation revealed that Tripura's unemployment rate was at 10% during the financial year 2018-19, and has now decreased to 1.7%, which is significantly lower than the national average of 3.2%.
Without directly referencing the previous Left Front and Congress administrations, Saha pointed out that earlier governments allocated government jobs based on “party affiliation.”
“Under the BJP government, job opportunities are provided based on merit and upholding transparency,” he remarked.
He emphasized that the current state administration is committed to creating job opportunities and ensuring a transparent recruitment process.
As of March this year, the state has successfully employed 17,554 individuals, with 3,554 jobs being allocated in just 2025 alone.
The Chief Minister asserted that the government is functioning systematically, and it is not within their ethos to exclude anyone. He added that enhancing the administrative efficiency with transparency is one of the state government's primary objectives.
Saha mentioned that there have been no significant challenges faced by the government, attributing this to their commitment to transparent job provision.
“We pledge to provide jobs and secure employment for all. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often emphasized the importance of transparency. The employment landscape in Tripura has seen considerable improvement, with over 2,900 individuals employed in government and private sectors via various agencies in security and other services. Furthermore, more than 1,600 jobs have been generated in the state's industrial sectors over the past three years through the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation,” he added.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the state government is placing a strong emphasis on skill development alongside vocational education.
