Agartala, Feb 10 (NationPress) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday urged everyone, including students and youth, to engage passionately in the government’s ‘War Against Drugs’ initiative aimed at establishing a drug-free society in the state.
The Chief Minister conveyed this message during the ‘Jagriti-2025’, an Inter-College Quiz Competition held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan, highlighting that the drug issue significantly impacts society, particularly the youth.
“We have initiated a comprehensive campaign under ‘Nesha Mukt Tripura’ (Drug-Free Tripura). While Tripura Police and other agencies strive towards this objective, it is essential for the general public, including students, youth, women, and others, to participate in this campaign to ensure its success,” stated Saha.
He pointed out that quiz competitions that increase awareness about road accidents are vital today.
According to the Chief Minister, road accidents are costing valuable human resources to both the state and the nation, making awareness crucial for consumer protection. He stressed that students represent the future of the country, and educating them about consumer rights and road safety would greatly benefit the government.
Highlighting the achievements of Tripura’s students on a national and international level, the Chief Minister mentioned Pritam Das, a student from Belonia in southern Tripura, who had the opportunity to engage directly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ in New Delhi.
“Pritam articulated his thoughts clearly and brilliantly to the Prime Minister, and I take immense pride in him. He embodies the spirit of all of us. Students from Tripura are excelling in various fields. It is imperative for everyone to step up and identify and report individuals involved in drug peddling. A healthy society will enable students to achieve even greater success,” said Saha, who also oversees the Education portfolio. He reflected on how the conditions in schools and colleges were dire 30 years ago, with violent incidents occurring during examinations.
Despite the improvements, a new threat in the form of drugs has surfaced, necessitating collective action in the ‘War Against Drugs’ mission to tackle this growing issue.
“Many road accidents arise from improper helmet use, resulting in serious injuries. Young individuals ride motorcycles without properly wearing helmets, and pillion riders often disregard safety. While our state has a lower accident rate compared to others, we must remain vigilant. It is crucial to avoid speeding, driving under the influence, and using mobile phones while driving. We are also establishing trauma centers throughout the state,” he added.
