New Delhi, Jan 15 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar met with the visiting President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss bilateral cooperation in various sectors before his upcoming engagements with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.

"It was a pleasure to meet with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam of Singapore today. We explored our collaboration in semiconductors, industrial parks, skilling, digitalisation, and trade development. As we commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations, I am confident this State visit will inject new energy into our comprehensive strategic partnership," EAM Jaishankar shared on X following their meeting.

The Singaporean President arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday evening for his inaugural State Visit to India, coinciding with the 60th anniversary celebrations of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Throughout his visit, Shanmugaratnam will engage with President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a banquet in his honour.

Accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers, parliament members, and officials, he is also set to meet PM Modi after a ceremonial welcome at the front of Rashtrapati Bhawan on Thursday.

President Tharman's itinerary includes a trip to Odisha from January 17-18.

According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), "India and Singapore share extensive cooperation rooted in a long history of friendship, trust, and mutual respect. President Tharman's visit is anticipated to enhance bilateral relations, which were elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Singapore in September 2024."

PM Modi has praised the advancements made in various areas of bilateral cooperation.

"My visit to Singapore was very productive. It will undoubtedly invigorate our bilateral ties and benefit our peoples. I express my gratitude to the government and people of Singapore for their hospitality," PM Modi stated on X after concluding his two-day visit to Singapore in September 2024.

During their previous meeting, Tharman and PM Modi reaffirmed the enduring friendship between the two nations and discussed India's potential as a key growth center over the next decade, propelled by social and digital investments across its diverse population and new economic connections.
