Mumbai, Feb 7 (NationPress) In a momentous decision, the Maharashtra government has removed a staggering five lakh women beneficiaries from the prominent Ladki Bahin Yojana following a thorough verification process that unearthed numerous ineligible participants.
Five lakh women have been eliminated from the Ladki Bahin Yojana based on the government’s resolution. Among those declared ineligible are beneficiaries from the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana - 230,000; women over the age of 65 years - 110,000; and women participating in the Namoshakti Yojana who own four-wheelers registered under family members but voluntarily withdrew from the scheme - 160,000,” stated Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare.
Tatkare emphasized that the state is dedicated to ensuring that all eligible women receive the benefits of the Ladki Bahin Yojana.
Initially launched in July of the previous year in anticipation of the Assembly elections, this scheme has disbursed a monthly assistance of Rs 1,500 to approximately 2.46 crore eligible women beneficiaries from July to January.
The government anticipates releasing the February installment shortly.
This significant action by the Maharashtra government to exclude five lakh women from the Ladki Bahin Yojana was prompted by a verification initiative following reports of fraudulent beneficiaries.
The government sought collaboration with the Income Tax Department and the Transport Department to validate the beneficiaries.
Aditi Tatkare clarified that only complaints concerning fake beneficiaries will be addressed.
She noted that the need for the verification process arose from allegations regarding potential fraudulent beneficiaries, adding that around 4,500 women have opted to withdraw from the scheme in light of these issues.
Previously, Uday Samant, the minister for industry and Marathi language, stated that the state government will persist with the implementation of the flagship Ladki Bahin Yojana, reiterating that the verification of eligible beneficiaries will proceed. He further explained that some beneficiaries may become ineligible throughout the verification due to factors such as age, vehicle ownership, and excessive income.
“Individuals over the age of 65 and those owning a four-wheeler cannot participate in this scheme. Additionally, if such women have enrolled in the scheme mistakenly, they will be excluded,” he mentioned.
