New Delhi, Jan 27 (NationPress) BJP leader Anurag Thakur on Monday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of possessing an anti-Dalit mindset, criticizing the party's actions and statements concerning Dalit leaders. He asserted that essential services in Delhi would see improvement if the BJP comes to power.

In an interview with IANS, Thakur stated, "The anti-Dalit mindset is plainly evident in the Aam Aadmi Party. The Chief Minister of Punjab, who is from AAP, removes his own garland and places it around the statue of Dr. Ambedkar. Meanwhile, they make disparaging remarks about Dalit MLAs. Under their governance, Dr. Ambedkar's statue was disrespected, and when a Dalit woman sought a ticket, she was asked for money, and upon requesting it back, there were threats of violence against her."

Thakur further highlighted that Dalit leaders within AAP have echoed similar sentiments. He noted, "Two Dalit leaders from AAP have openly labeled the party as anti-Dalit. There isn’t a single Dalit Rajya Sabha MP from AAP, nor have they appointed a Dalit as Deputy Chief Minister. Furthermore, AAP pledged to send 500 Dalit students abroad for education, but none were dispatched. These incidents are a few examples of how AAP disrespects Dalit leaders and the Dalit community."

Thakur also expressed concern regarding the party's unfulfilled promises. "Women from the Dalit community, their daughters, and even Dr. Ambedkar himself have been disrespected by AAP," he emphasized, pointing out the disparity between the party’s pledges and its actions.

He asserted that AAP’s approach is filled with contradictions, as their leaders engage in actions that contradict the spirit of inclusivity for Dalits.

As the Delhi Assembly elections approach, Thakur assured the public that if the BJP assumes power, essential services and benefits will improve.

"The people of Delhi can rely on the BJP to not only continue their benefits but also to tackle issues such as escalating electricity bills, access to clean water, and proper road maintenance," he stated.

"We will guarantee that there will be no obstacles to beneficiary schemes, and they will be carried out more effectively," he added.

He further criticized the current political climate, asserting, "Certain individuals have kept the country in a state of decline while in power. Now, it appears that AAP has taken the Congress party hostage."

Thakur ridiculed Congress leaders for their reluctance to hold public rallies, remarking, "The person who once claimed he never felt cold, even in the mountains, is now unable to leave his blanket due to fear of losing the elections."

Earlier on Thursday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's major rally at Mustafabad in the national capital was canceled due to his poor health on medical advice, stated the party's Delhi chief Devender Yadav.

The Congress has been unable to secure even a single seat in the last two Assembly elections for the 70-member House.

The party's political drought followed three consecutive victories in Assembly elections between 1998 and 2008. The results for the current Assembly poll will be announced on February 8.
