New Delhi, Feb 12 (NationPress) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar has asserted that the Delhi Police have filed a "false case" against Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan, alleging that the accusations were concocted to target political rivals.
The Delhi Police have charged Khan with supposedly spearheading an assault on a police unit that was attempting to apprehend Shahwaz Khan, who is implicated in a 2018 attempted murder incident.
Refuting the police's assertions, Kakkar told IANS, “The individual the police aimed to arrest was already on bail. When the relevant legal documentation was presented to the police, they sought to mask their error by wrongfully implicating Amanatullah Khan in this case.”
She further criticized the BJP, urging them to concentrate on governance instead of "engaging in negative politics and fabricating charges against opposition leaders".
"The people of Delhi entrusted them with a mandate for governance, yet they are misusing their authority," she continued.
Kakkar also pointed out what she described as the "selective approach" of law enforcement, claiming that the police have ignored assaults on AAP leaders while swiftly acting against its members.
"This is a fabricated case against Amanatullah Khan. The police were inactive when stones were thrown at Arvind Kejriwal's vehicle. Meanwhile, BJP MP Parvesh Verma held a press conference to support criminals involved in robbery and dacoity,” she alleged.
The controversy arose when the Delhi Police initiated a search for Amanatullah Khan, who has been accused of leading an attack on a police team and threatening them in Jamia Nagar. Khan recently secured his Okhla Assembly position in the February 5 elections, winning by a significant margin of 23,639 votes.
When questioned about rumors of internal strife within the AAP’s Punjab unit, Kakkar dismissed them as unfounded, labeling them an effort by the BJP to disseminate misinformation. "The BJP is intentionally generating false narratives to deceive the public," she remarked.
Concerning the recent Delhi elections, Kakkar acknowledged the hurdles faced by AAP, stating, “We participated in the elections despite substantial pressure from agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), alongside the political and financial leverage held by the BJP. We are scrutinizing the reasons for our decrease in vote share and the drop in our seats. A continual evaluation of the election outcomes is in progress.”
In the recently held Delhi elections, AAP obtained 22 seats with a 43.57 percent vote share, whereas BJP secured 48 seats with a 45.56 percent share. Congress garnered a mere 6.34 percent vote share.
