New Delhi, Dec 19 (NationPress) Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed on Friday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demonstrated a lack of faith in the democratic process by contesting the BJP candidate's victory by 405 votes in the recent by-election for the Ashok Vihar ward of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) through legal channels.
During a review of the Punjab local body elections on Thursday, Sachdeva noted that AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal had claimed that an Opposition candidate's win by a mere five votes in one ward illustrated the fairness of the elections.
“However, in Delhi, AAP has struggled to accept its candidate's loss by 405 votes and is now seeking to overturn the result in court. This reveals the troubling and shameful attitude of AAP,” he remarked.
The Delhi BJP President emphasized that his party honors the people's decision in a democratic setup, while AAP consistently seeks to find “foul play” in each defeat.
“In the recent municipal elections, even when the BJP lost in the Naraina Ward by just 148 votes, it accepted the public's verdict. Yet, AAP perceives a conspiracy behind its 405-vote loss in Ashok Vihar and has resorted to legal action,” Sachdeva stated.
Earlier, he launched a sharp critique against Kejriwal, accusing him of disseminating misinformation and engaging in deceptive politics regarding pollution issues.
In light of ongoing protests by AAP over air quality, Sachdeva pointed out the initiatives undertaken by the BJP government to tackle pollution and held the Kejriwal-led administration responsible for worsening the air quality crisis in the national capital.
He mentioned that Kejriwal should first recognize that the Air Quality Index (AQI) levels this year have improved compared to past years, attributing this progress to road repairs and infrastructure projects initiated by the BJP in Delhi.
Despite Kejriwal's reputation for eloquence, he has ensnared himself in his own rhetoric, Sachdeva asserted.
“He has claimed that pollution levels in Beijing, China, were significantly worse than in Delhi around 15 years ago, yet the Chinese government implemented strict measures leading to improvement,” Sachdeva noted.
He added that Kejriwal himself conceded that Beijing's situation was worse than Delhi's a decade ago.
In this context, he questioned why Kejriwal, who has governed Delhi for the past 11 years, has failed to enhance the pollution situation when the Chinese government succeeded during a similar timeframe.
