New Delhi, Jan 21 (NationPress) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) retaliated against the BJP on Tuesday regarding the latter's accusations that Arvind Kejriwal disrespected Lord Ram and the Hindu epic Ramcharitmanas through his 'misleading' statements.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva claimed to be observing a one-day fast, seeking forgiveness for the alleged 'insult', while other leaders referred to Kejriwal as "Adharmi" (one who does not adhere to the rightful path) and an "election-driven Hindu" for his supposed misquotation of the Ramayan character. This ignited a heated exchange between the two political parties.
AAP accused the BJP of overreacting, chanting slogans like "Raavan ke samman mei, BJP maidaan mei" (BJP is in the field to honor Raavan) and "BJP ka ek hi naara, Raavan hai aadarsh humara" (BJP has only one slogan – Raavan is our ideal). This was in response to the BJP's protest outside the AAP chief's residence.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh criticized the BJP, labeling Raavan as their "ideal".
"I am astonished that the BJP is fasting today. Their actions indicate they are descendants of Raavan. Their true nature is unveiled. The people of Delhi should be cautious of them," he remarked.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also delivered a fierce critique of the BJP, asserting, "Kejriwal ji commented on Raavan, and the BJP immediately rushed to defend Raavan, as if they are his descendants. Their politics has sunk so low that they now defend their falsehoods by invoking symbols like Raavan."
"After the elections, they will pose a more significant threat to the poor and slum residents than Raavan ever did. Their real agenda is to demolish slums and seize land. The public must remain vigilant against their deceptive theatrics and make the right choices," he further cautioned.
Speaking to IANS, AAP national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar accused the BJP of "panicking" over Kejriwal's statements.
"Kejriwal mentioned Raavan in a public meeting, and the BJP is now arguing it was Maricha, not Raavan. Their excessive reaction exposes their true demonic nature. If the BJP gains power in Delhi, their first action will be to demolish slums and eliminate the provision of 24-hour electricity," she said.
The controversy originates from an incident in the Ramayana where Marich, a demon disguised as a golden deer, deceives Lord Ram into the forest, leading to Sita's abduction by Raavan.
Kejriwal also emerged this morning to defend his remarks that ignited the controversy.
"Yesterday, I stated that Raavan appeared as the golden deer to abduct Mata Sita. Now the BJP claims it wasn't Raavan but the demon Marich. Since then, they've been protesting outside my residence, asserting I disrespected Raavan. Do they have such a fondness for Raavan?" Kejriwal stated.
"The BJP embodies a demonic approach. If they come to power, even accidentally, they will behave like demons, consuming the slum dwellers and the impoverished," he added.
