New Delhi, Oct 1 (NationPress) The administration of Ladakh has asserted that the claims of targeting individuals, particularly Sonam Wangchuk, are unfounded, stating that the measures taken against him are grounded in credible evidence and documentation.
In an official communiqué, the administration refuted the accusations as "unsubstantiated," emphasizing that the actions of law enforcement are based on verified information and records.
"There is no basis for accusations of witch-hunting or obfuscation," the statement emphasized, calling for impartiality in the ongoing investigations.
The authorities pointed out that investigations are underway concerning financial discrepancies and foreign currency violations linked to the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL).
The administration noted that HIAL, which lacks recognition as a university, has been providing degrees, potentially compromising the futures of its students. Moreover, it allegedly did not disclose foreign funding in its financial reports.
The statement also addressed the annulment of SECMOL’s FCRA registration, citing several infractions.
The authorities reiterated that legal channels are available for the organization to contest the ruling.
Concerning Sonam Wangchuk's recent hunger strike and public comments, the administration accused him of making incendiary remarks, including allusions to Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, and allegedly inciting young people against peaceful protest methods. They referenced a video from June 2025 on his YouTube channel where he purportedly suggested an "Arab Spring"-like uprising and advocated for self-immolation as a protest tactic.
The administration criticized Wangchuk’s behavior during the Anshan protest, indicating that he did not diffuse tensions and discreetly exited the venue as the situation escalated.
They also pointed out that the government had set a meeting date with Ladakh leaders and expressed willingness to engage. However, Wangchuk persisted with his hunger strike, which the administration declared as "irresponsible" and politically charged.
The statement concluded by affirming that the grounds for Wangchuk’s detention had been clearly communicated and urged for tranquility, underlining the importance of allowing legal processes to unfold.
"We are optimistic that together we will restore normalcy in the peace-loving Leh Township and continue our dialogue," it stated.
In an interview on September 11, 2025, at NDS Park, Wangchuk claimed that the youth are rejecting peace and disregarding Mahatma Gandhi’s principles. He suggested that if individuals come out worse, it could happen.
Prior to his Anshan, Wangchuk recommended (September 09, 2025) that participants wear masks, caps, and hoodies under the pretext of COVID precautions, despite no signs of the virus's spread in Ladakh.
