New Delhi, Sep 30 (NationPress) The investigation into the untimely demise of Uttarakhand journalist Rajiv Pratap has intensified as his family raises serious concerns about possible foul play surrounding his disappearance and the circumstances of his recovery.

Pratap had been unaccounted for since the evening of September 18, and his body was discovered under mysterious conditions in Uttarkashi district. Search teams retrieved his remains from the Joshiyaara Barrage, also referred to as Joshiada Lake, on September 28.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Janak Singh Panwar confirmed the finding, while Superintendent of Police Sarita Doval indicated that the post-mortem results revealed internal injuries that are often linked to accidents. However, she admitted that the family has provided new information, warranting a more thorough investigation.

The circumstances surrounding Pratap’s disappearance had raised red flags from the beginning.

On September 19, just a day after he went missing, his vehicle was located abandoned along the banks of the Bhagirathi River, adding to the intrigue.

His family has consistently voiced their suspicions of foul play and has urged law enforcement to conduct an exhaustive investigation. Their concerns have been echoed by the Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA), which confirmed Pratap's death via a social media post and called for transparency throughout the investigation.

“We expect the authorities to maintain transparency in this case,” the association remarked, conveying their sorrow and support to the grieving family.

Alok Pratap Singh, brother of the late journalist, has expressed doubts regarding the circumstances of his brother's death, stating that the injuries do not align with those typically seen in car accidents. He also alleged that Pratap had been receiving threats in recent months. He noted that his brother had faced pressure to retract stories revealing deplorable conditions at the district hospital.

Rajiv Pratap was a distinguished alumnus of IIMC and actively managed a digital news platform named Delhi Uttarakhand Live. Renowned for his incisive reporting and dedication to public interest journalism, his unexpected passing has sent shockwaves through the media community.

Journalists throughout the region mourned his death, celebrating him as a devoted professional who championed the values of truth and accountability.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed profound sorrow over the loss of Pratap and has mandated a comprehensive and unbiased investigation. His instructions aim to address the family's concerns and ensure that every aspect of the case is scrutinized without prejudice.

The IIMC Alumni Association also honored Pratap, acknowledging his contributions to journalism and the significant gap his death leaves in the media landscape.
